Baltimore, MD. (SEPTEMBER 4, 2011) – BALTIMORE, MARYLAND - SEPTEMBER 4, 2011 – Team REDLINE XTREME driver No. 07 Tomas Scheckter had a tough day at the office in the inaugural Baltimore Grand Prix on the 2.04-mile, 13-turn downtown temporary street circuit in Baltimore, Maryland.
Commenting on his day T-Scheck said,? "Our day ended when I tried to pass Marco Andretti around the inside. After the first stop I knew that I had to push really hard to make up time and he came out with cold tires. I tried to go on his inside and it didn't work. I was just hanging on from there on and hoping that people would get into incidents."
Scheckter started the day in 24th position and in typical Scheckter form immediately gained two positions at the start putting him in 22nd place. Due to starting deep in the field, the team opted for an alternate strategy bringing Scheckter in on Lap 10 for fuel and tires giving him a chance to get up front. This would ultimately lead to being the correct strategy as fellow competitor Tony Kanaan adopted a similar strategy and brought home a podium however when Scheckter attempted a lap 13 pass on Marco Andretti on the inside it resulted in a spin.? While Scheckter managed to keep it off the wall, he had to be re-started, and as a result he lost positions.? It would get more complicated for Team REDLINE Xtreme as Scheckter caused the first caution on Lap 31 again keeping it off the wall.? From that point on, it was a matter of survival. He finished in 22nd position
VPX sports nutrition guru and CEO, Jack Owoc said this about IndyCar’s Inaugural Baltimore Grand Prix:? "Thanks to the City of Baltimore for doing a stellar job in putting on a spectacular race weekend. Immediately apparent by the way city officials embraced the Redline Xtreme IndyCar and Energy Drink was that the weekend was slated to be a stellar one. As promised, VPX gave out over 22,000 FREE bottles of Redline and Coco Fit beverages to fans that just couldn't get enough. I was still getting asked for Redline Energy drinks and shots even after the race was over on Monday morning!? We hope and pray that the city of Baltimore will support Redline so that we can come back next year. “
Owoc added:? “The hit of the weekend was definitely the Redline Xtreme Race Girls -- the popularity of these "Fit Chicks" seemingly eclipsed that of many of the drivers. The Xtreme girls even had to take the military back to school by showing our boys how to bang out 12 consecutive one arm push ups. Military men told our Xtreme Team that "girls" where just supposed to hang on the pull up bar. This request was met with defiance as the Xtreme girls "manned up" on the military pull up bar easily pumping out many perfect pull ups.? T-Scheck managing to keep the Redline Xtreme Machine off the wall three times after several spin outs was truly amazing. However, Tomas brought the Redline Xtreme Machine home unscathed to fight another day and that's what we intend to do!”
SH Racing Principal “Sulli”commented on the Baltimore Event.? “After seeing how the course shaped up, it was quickly apparent that this was one of, if not the toughest events we could enter Team REDLINE Xtreme into as a one off entry; However, based on the feedback from the fans and the National TV Coverage the Redline Xtreme Machine garnered, I don't believe we’d do anything differently said SH Racing Principal James “Sulli” Sullivan.? The event was a massive success, and the REDLINE Xtreme Machine put on a great show for the fans,” added Sulli.?
